Martin speaks of the paradigm shift required to recognize and become aware of the totality of what one lives. The term "livance" is coined to describe this. He comments on the current paradigm in general use and its self-sustaining ways and what is required to make a significant shift to a more fully "alive" position.

Livance And Pardigms

You might remember that well I told you many things among others that kind of what I call the psychological bias.  If we look at only three types of awareness, sensory, emotional and mental, we notice that the combination of the three gives you nine possibilities.  Of these nine possibilities people are educated to only just three, the sensory sensory, the sensory emotional and the sensory mental.  It’s calling the others, possibly negating them. I have told you also a very common experience.  When you have an impression, let us say you spoke of Christmas, you have a let us quote unquote Christmas impression of that session and if you want to express it, you have a very hard time finding words. You discover that your mind, the ability of your mind to make words expressing the impression is very poor, not reliable at all, sometimes you come up with words then you have to take them back, you say no it’s not that, you try another one the resonance is half good or no good at all, so you try again until you realize that actually every time, you have a fullness of lines that is not acknowledged by your consciousness, because your consciousness is trained to acknowledge only the sensory side of only three levels that’s all.

Now we come into situations and it seems that psychologists have gone into some very interesting findings. With everything you meet in life, every experience, every situation including yourself you make concepts about it. You figure out that things are so and so because you sense them that way because it was told, because science says it that way and so on, That means you leave with one concept after the other and you go on another one.

Now if you go to more basic situations you have what might be called an over arching concept. That means one that covers all the systems of concepts you use. This is called the paradigm. They have finally found out that the paradigm that people use in someplace in the world, let us say Western hemisphere, is not the same as the paradigm used in the Eastern hemisphere. So that for instance they discovered that, one study, one we are not included, maybe some of you not here, but when western people study is from spiritual side they do it within their own paradigm and in the western one not the eastern one. Now very obviously there is some science goes along with the eastern paradigm not the  western one. And they have found out for instance that when the western people study mysticism eastern they are looking for the phenomenal side of it. They want to be able to perform something special that is on the phenomenal side, this is what science does, things that can be measured. And keen observers suddenly realize that for the true eastern people the phenomenal side is possibly a side effect that is of no importance. Meaning the western study ofthe eastern sides of the side that is the least important for the eastern people. Sounds kind of  silly. But this shows you  that in the conceptualizing you do - you follow a pattern that is commonly accepted and you work within that pattern, Now they have made another discovery the property of the paradigm is to be self validating, now that’s a big trap.
